Renew Your Mind

In keeping with the theme that I appear to have going, In my last post on Guarding your heart  I touch on the fact that the peace of God will help you to protect your heart and your mind :

7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7 (ESV)

So clearly to be complete we need to take a quick look at your mind quickly, and see what the word has to say about that.

12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)

As you can see here, as part of our spiritual worship, we are encouraged to renew our mind, so that we would not be conformed to this world, but rather changed in a way that allows us to discern the will of God – which is quite a powerful promise to hold onto.

And how do we renew our mind

First actively chose what you expose yourself to

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Philippians 4:8 (ESV)

Second, as follows on from Romans 12,  think of yourself realistically, and act accordingly… don’t try to act in ways that God has not gifted you, or to pretend to have matured beyond your faith… just sincerely honour God with your gifts.

3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

Romans 12:3 (ESV)

6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith;

Romans 12:6 (ESV)
